F.D. Bluford Library Seeks Students to Help the Library Build a Makerspace

F.D. Bluford Library is building a makerspace and we are hiring four students to help us launch! What is a makerspace? Learn more here.

If starting a new makerspace that would serve the whole university sounds like fun, we would love to see your application.

Send us a cover letter & resume telling us why you could perform the job duties listed below well and why you want to work in a makerspace. Applications accepted on a rolling basis. We aim to have students begin work the second week of classes in Spring 2022.

Graduate Positions (2)

20 hours week:

Semester Stipend/Hourly wage: $15


Undergraduate Positions (2)

Average hours per week: 20

Hourly wage: $12


Job Duties:

Create a welcoming space for all students, faculty, staff and community members to create and make projects, items, prototypes, and crafts.

Teach and assist with workshops on how to safely use tools and techniques to design and create (content of workshops will vary based on student applicant background)

Collect data about the space under the supervision of the student success librarian

Answer questions about where materials in the space can be found and how the tools & materials can be used safely and effectively.

Ensure users follow the rules of the space for their own safety & enjoyment and the safety & enjoyment of others. Record attendance/usage data and safety training completion records for people using the space and tools.

Communicate with the university community and create short social media, presentations, or instructional videos/photos about the creative spaces in the library.

Assist with and use pop-up and in-classroom creative kits to teach others about the creative opportunities available.

Ensure the physical integrity of the space, supervise its safe operation, and work evening and weekend hours as needed.
